Cardiovascular Risk Screening
The practice nurse offers cardiovascular risk screening and advice for all patients aged 35 to 70 years. If you are in this age group you will be invited by the Primary Care Trust to attend an appointment at the health centre.
Cervical Smears
It is important for all women aged between 25 and 65 years to have a cervical smear test every 3 years. Appointments can be made with the practice nurses.
Chronic Disease Clinics
We offer comprehensive services for patients with chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, asthma and high blood pressure. The majority of these clinics are run by the practice nurses.
District Nurses
District Nurses provide nursing care to patients at home. This is normally at the request of the doctor or hospital.
Enhanced Diabetes Service
We offer an enhanced service for patients who have diabetes. This service is run by Dr Natasha Fraser and the practice nurses and offers care which would normally be given in hospital.
Family Planning
Doctors and practice nurses will offer family planning advice. Contraception is available from the health centre, including condoms, injections, coils and implants.
Flu Vaccinations
These are offered each autumn to all patients aged 65 years and over and those other groups who are most a risk. Further information about Flu Vaccinations.
Health Promotion and Well Person Checks
The practice is actively engaged in health promotion.
In particular we can arrange; primary prevention e.g., advice on smoking, diet and exercise and immunisations both adult and childhood; screening, e.g. blood pressure checks, cholesterol estimations, cervical smears, travel advice and vaccines etc.

Midwives
Community midwives help to look after mothers and their babies before birth and in the immediate postnatal period. They work closely with our doctors and hospital doctors.
Minor Surgery
The doctors offer minor surgery, cryotherapy and removal of lumps and cysts. Appointments can be made after seeing any of the doctors.
Nursing Homes
The practices provide services to the local nursing and residential homes. All residents are offered the opportunity to register with the practices if they so wish.
Podiatry
There is a walk-in podiatry service available every Wednesday 1.30pm to 2.30pm. This is for acute problems such as: weeping, discharging wound; in growing or infected toe nail; loss of sensation; foot infection.
Please note, the 'walk in' podiatry service is based on 'first come, first served'.

Sexual Health
The practice offers confidential sexual health advice, investigations and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases. Appointments can be made with the doctor or practice nurse. Sexual health advice is also available from the health visitors.
Stop Smoking Service
Ask at reception or speak to a doctor or practice nurse if you want to stop smoking.
Travel Vaccinations
We offer a full range of advice and vaccinations for foreign travel.
Most travel vaccinations provide to patient are under NHS expense so there is no additional charge to the patient. Our Practice Nurse is fully qualified and experienced. We offer readily available appointment for travel vaccination every week.
Treatment Room
The treatment room nurse runs a clinic each morning for dressings, stitches removal and ear syringes. Appointments must be made by ringing the central booking line on 0161 426 9636. Brinnington Surgery does not provide this service and has no control over appointments.
There are several other services on offer at the health centre, including dental services, chiropody, physiotherapy, hearing tests for children under five and speech therapy.
