Teaching and Training

Brinnington Surgery is a training practice for General Practitioner Registrars and doctors in training. These are fully trained doctors with a wealth of hospital experience who are being trained for the Primary Care setting.

Training may involve shared surgeries with another doctor and video surgeries. The reception staff will inform you if the consultations are being filmed. Please say if you would prefer not to be filmed.

Specialitist GP Trainees

The practice is a training practice and provides placements for Specialist GP Trainees. Specialist GP trainees spend six months in General Practice in their second year of GP training and a year in their third year. Trainees who work part-time may be with the practice for a shorter or longer period. Specialist GP Trainees are qualified doctors who have chosen to become GPs. They are supervised by a GP Trainer within the practice and may offer joint surgeries where both doctors are present.

Foundation Year Doctors

The practice also provides placements for Foundation Year doctors who are in their second year as a qualified doctor. Each doctor spends four months in General Practice before deciding whether to choose General Practice as a career.  They are supervised by a GP within the practice and may offer joint surgeries where both doctors are present.

Appointment times for Foundation Year doctors are booked at longer intervals than regular doctors so please be prepared to spend 20-30 minutes in the practice if you have an appointment.

Students

The practice provides placements for medical students.  Students may sit in on the doctors' surgeries. We appreciate your support in helping the students learn by allowing them to sit in on your consultations but if you would rather see the doctor without a student please feel free to tell reception or the doctor.

The practice also provides placements for nursing students who may sit in on the nurses' clinics. If you would rather see the nurse without a student please tell reception or the nurse.
